River City Rowing Club Junior Crew
Over New Year's Weekend, storms, flooding, and high tide caused substantial flooding at the boathouse.

There was about 1 foot of water in the singles house on Saturday 12/31/05 and the ramp to the dock was completely submerged.  The high winds on Sunday 1/1/06 caused the dock (new and old) to become detached from the piling closest to the basin and swing around 180 degrees.  The ramp and sections of the deck/ramp were also ripped apart.  Luckily, the dock and most pieces of the ramp were saved and the dock is reattached to the pilings.  Monday 1/2/06 was the most critical day as far as water height - a combination of high flow and high tide caused about 2-3 feet of flooding in the singles house and for most of the peninsula that the boathouse is on to be submerged (including water in the eights house.

Prior to all of this, boats and equipment were moved off of the bottom racks and off the floors of the singles and eights house.  Nothing substantial as far as equipment was damaged.

On Saturday 1/7/06, the debris from the flooding was cleaned up and the boathouses put back in order.  The old dock was removed and disposed of and the new dock was permanently attached to the pilings.

On Saturday and Sunday 1/14-1/15/06, work was performed to place the decking (leading to the ramp) back onto its supports and to reattach the ramp.
BACK TO HOME
Hopefully, we will be able to row off of our docks soon.  Until then, regular practice resumes for the Junior Crew the week of January 16th (check with your coach for the exact day).  If we are unable to launch from our docks, we will carry our boats to UCD and launch off of their docks or practice will be held on land.  When using the UCD docks and facilities, please be respectful of UCD being kind enough to allow us to use their facilities.  Clean up clothing and water bottles off the dock and land and do not enter the UCD boathouse.
